Publisher's Notes - May 2010
Last Sunday, my husband, Dave, and I renewed our wedding vows at a special Wedding Anniversary ceremony to honour couples married 30 years or more. Our actual anniversary isn’t until August, but we decided to participate in this group event.
I wasn’t sure what to expect and hadn’t considered the impact of renewing our vows. In fact, I was focusing on the dinner I would cook up for the family afterwards.
For years, I have thought that a renewal ceremony was more for couples who had experienced challenges in their relationships…and that didn’t apply to us (have you ever heard of a couple without challenges – what was I thinking?).
We joined right hands and when my husband looked into my eyes and said he would “love me and honour me all the days of his life” I was in awe, because I had no doubt it was true. These are the same words Dave vowed so long ago and has shown in his actions over the years…but the words have never been repeated. I wept as I said my vows, feeling a renewed commitment for our lives together.
Too often, we neglect to say what is in our hearts and on our minds. Whether it’s with your partner, your child, a friend, or a client let the people in your lives know what they mean to you at every opportunity. Don’t think they “just know” how you feel. Your words will change their day – and perhaps their life.
