I just returned from a fantastic weekend getaway in Canada’s capitol where I attended my first franchise tradeshow…and what a learning experience it was.
I was thrilled to see first hand the vast array of businesses available to tap into – and the professionalism of the tradeshow booth staff. Networking Today offers many articles on the topic of tradeshow etiquette and attitude and the representatives at the National Franchise and Business Opportunity Tradeshow held in Ottawa exemplified what it takes to work the floor. No participant was ignored and no booth staff was overbearing. It was the perfect balance of enticement and knowledge…and of course, networking.
If you’re planning on showcasing your business in a tradeshow this Fall, consider who is representing your brand in the booth. Are they knowledgeable? Are they confident? Are they engaging?
All too often, I’ve seen individuals who avoid eye contact and ignore attendees as they’ve chatted with their co-workers. Even worse, I’ve actually witnessed booth staff talking to friends on their cell phones – and reading a book (and they’re probably the ones who complain the show was a bust).
Tradeshows are great networking venues if used properly. Be prepared, have a goal, and enjoy.
